As you know, the diagnosis and treatment of chronic pain can sometimes be difficult. Some patients fail to respond to medications physiotherapy and/or surgery. Although MRIs scanning can be very helpful, they can also lead to confusion knowing that over 60% of people who are asymptomatic have abnormal lumbar MRI scans. Some patients have radiating pain whose cause is not apparent on MRI. This is discussed in the Medical Prolotherapy page .
Many chronic painful conditions can not only be treated with prolotherapy, but when combined with good history and physical examinations, prolotherapy can also serve as a diagnostic tool. By using lignocaine along with the prolotherapy solution, when the cause of the pain is treated and the pain resolves the diagnosis can be more accurately determined.
Acupuncture can also be very effective in treating many chronic painful conditions. According to a large study involving 5690 patients, acupuncture had a success rate of 79.7%. This can be helpful for those patients who do not have an obvious ligament or tendon injury or arthritis.
Patients who have a psychological cause for their illness or when the condition is properly diagnosed and optimally treated, Medical Hypnotherapy alone or combined with Medical Acupuncture (Hypno-puncture) can be performed to help eliminate any residual pain.
As you may know, hypnosis and acupuncture have each been used as anaesthetics for major surgeries. They can individually be very effective for pain reduction. When these two procedures are combined in a procedure called Hypno-puncture, there can be an even greater reduction or elimination of pain. This procedure is designed to eradicate pain only when the underlying condition is completely addressed. This procedure is done in a way that any new pain is recognized as a problem that may need additional diagnostic and therapeutic medical intervention.
